Super Salty! Super Healthy! Magnesium and You.

Super Salty! Super Healthy! Magnesium and You. 1When you think about floating – do you think about floating in water or air? Well, if you want crazy health benefits you will want to think about floating in super salty water! And after you read this blog you’ll want to stop thinking about it and just do it! Because besides being peaceful and a great way to unplug for a bit of time did you know that regular sessions in the float tank could help combat magnesium deficiencies? Here’s the kicker…since magnesium deficiency may play a part in hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and migraine headaches, just to name a few why wouldn’t you want to combat that!?

An article published on the alternative medicine website, The Chamomile, posits that “According to Dr. Norman Shealy, a world-renowned neuroscientist and founder of the Shealy Institute, every known ailment is associated with a magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is the most important mineral needed for electrical stability of every cell in the body. A magnesium deficiency may be responsible for more diseases and illnesses than any other nutrient.”The article also states that a 2005 analysis of American adults consumption of magnesium found that, “68 percent (of adults) didn’t get enough each day. Furthermore, 19 percent had less than half of the recommended daily intake (350-400mg).”

How can floating help this? Here is some float pod data for you to float around (see what I did there?) in your brain …our float pod is filled with 250 gallons of water that then gets a whopping 850 pounds of Epsom salt added. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. So, basically, you’re absorbing all of that magnesium goodness right into your body through your largest organ – your skin! Quick. Easy. Direct.

I have an autoimmune disease, Scleroderma, one of the issues that is present for me is calcinosis, or calcium deposits riddled throughout various locations on my body. Some of which I’m not even unaware of, others are very evident and present as hard little BB like nodules under the skin on the backs of my upper arms. They can be quite painful until they “work themselves out” and they may do so in form hard little bone spurs or softer acne like pustules that secrete a toothpaste like substance. I know, gross, right?

These deposits are a result of my body not properly absorbing calcium (btw, I have osteoporosis, too. Since I was in my 30s. I’m only 41) because I’m deficient in magnesium. Our bodies can’t properly process calcium without magnesium, so, in my case, it “dumps” it wherever is feels like it.

Why did I tell you all that? To then tell you this: after floating consistently the calcium deposits in my arms soften and begin to recede. This is just ONE of the more minor benefits I get when I float.

Worried that you might get cold floating in water after awhile? Fret not! I’m EXTREMELY sensitive to cool temperatures – as in, my fingers and toes turn purple, blue, and white when I get even a little cold and I can float for an hour without any temperature issues.

Next I bet your concern is about how they keep the water clean…Fugetaboutit! The salt content mimics that of The Dead Sea, all that salt is actually how you do float! And of course, the Dead Sea has its name for a reason. Nothing can live in that concentration of salt. If that’s not enough for you …

After each session, the entire volume of the solution is pumped out and filtered through a three part filtration and sterilization system utilizing ultraviolet light and H2O2. When no one is floating, the water is filtered continuously through 3 different 1-10 micron filter. UV light is the safest most effective system available.
