This week’s teacher spotlight is super big and super bright because we’ve got 3 beauties to bring into the hot center of your attention. Mailoha Albaladejo, Suzanne Aronoff and Melissa Vogt all share a love for giving it to you hot! hot! hot! (yoga, I’m talking yoga here folks…) and while they are each extraordinary teachers in their own right, they share a passion for the Bikram (26&2) practice and would love to have you join them for some hot Bikram joy!
Here are their yoga stories:
Not only do I absolutely love heat (the hotter the better!) but I believe Bikram is an incredibly foundational practice. I find that the practice and postures, in particular the breathing exercises, improve my physical performance overall. I absolutely love teaching it because it’s incredible to see students in class truly challenging themselves and getting stronger.
Bikram is great for students that struggle with back issues. The practice stretches and strengthens the spine. During Bikram you will also burn some serious calories, develop increased flexibility and leave class feeling energized.
When I’m not teaching or practicing yoga I am running, cycling, swimming or taking some sort of circuit class. I love to sweat! I also love to eat! You can find more of me on my Instagram (@lifewithmailoha) where I spend the rest of my time!
I took my first Bikram class in 2004. It was a frigid February day in Columbus, Ohio. I was hooked instantly with the contrasting extreme heat inside and the exhilarating freezing cold outside. My body felt cleansed and my mind felt settled like never before.
Since that day, Bikram Yoga has been a constant presence in my life. As a teacher, I offer a playful yet sound anatomical and challenging teaching style and believe my love for Bikram yoga shines through with every class I lead. I believe that practicing just twice a week will improve the functioning of all body systems as the progression of postures stimulates and revitalizes our bodies.
This style of yoga in particular has a specific focus on spine health so our spines are lengthened and strengthened by the end of each practice. Bikram is ideal for athletes and folks recovering from injuries. Happily, Kodawari offers traditional 90 minute Bikram Sundays at 3 pm and Wednesdays at 7:15 pm. There is also a 60 min Bikram offering Wednesday mornings at 6 am.
My yoga practice really helps me in the rest of my life…I have been a massage therapist for many years and I know that my yoga practice has helped keep me strong as a therapist. And while the Bikram practice wwill always remain one of my original true loves look for my name on the schedule for a vinyasa class too! The Bikram practice is the dialogue and the vinyasa classes give me a chance to give rein to my love of music.
I have had a lifelong passion for music being a musician from childhood through college and to be honest, I often spend WAY too much time (but I love it) making playlists for yoga class and for my massages because discovering new music to share with people makes me happy! Join me when you can!
As a professional On-Air Runway Model, Melissa’s biggest passion in life, yoga, was forged in the crucible of exercise and the constant search for the hottest (pun intended) fitness program trending. In her words, “I was instantly hooked after my first hot Bikram yoga class – the intense physical and mental challenges the series offers really got me.”
As Melissa continued to practice, she was delighted to discover the power of yoga to transform, heal and unite the body, mind and soul. Physically, she was thrilled for the relief from back pain due to scoliosis. Mentally and emotionally, she felt a greater sense of peace and ease that continues to fuel her desire to share her passion with others today.
Melissa completed her 200hr yoga teacher training with Evolation Yoga in 2010. She has continued her education with Bikram Choudhury, Rajashree Choudhury Rodney Yee, Collen Saidman-Yee and Gary Krafstow with Viniyoga Therapy.
Melissa embraces 9 different certifications including: yoga(s), Pilates, Lagree fitness, cycling and personal training. As result, Melissa encourages omies (yoga homies, get it!) to make life changing transformations as she guides them inward on their own journey of self exploration through establishing and nurturing a connection to ones higher truth.
Needless to say, it’s time for you to get hot! You’ve got options…you can always sign up now for tomorrow!
