We went pretty quickly into dolphin, my arch enemy, there I said it. I was surprised but it was my first class with Valarie so I looked around the room to see if her regular students were surprised; they weren’t. “Is she trying to kill me, does she not like me, how could she be so cruel?” My head began to spin and I began to spin. However, it was going to be alright. Why? Because the same woman who asked me to go into dolphin also had my back.
Valarie is very maternal, like a mom who completely takes care of you but provides the correct amount of tough love and I loved her for it. I’ll try to get away with shenanigans if I can. The class went on. It was an adequate amount of heat for 9:15 a.m. class, there were a lot of students. A solid vinyasa flow which I’m always grateful for . . . and then we got to camel. I start spinning again, “I can’t, I won’t, damnit!!!” Aha though, Valarie has a twist, a twist that I have NEVER done before with camel. Thank the Buddha almighty that someone brought this twist my way because I didn’t feel like curling up into a ball and sucking my thumb that day because of camel. There were a few variations so if that was your end goal you certainly could get there. For the first time ever camel felt delicious and nutritious!!
Valarie is an instructor that’s new to Kodawari and has taken over a coveted time slot. She’s done it with grace and ease and i can see that she already has a following and I’m going to be following her too.
Valarie’s offerings are “Heated Vinyasa Flow” every Thursday 9:15-10:15 a.m. and “Vinyasa Flow 2/3” every Monday 9:15-10:30 a.m.
