I’ve heard about this gal Mallory for a few years now but hadn’t gotten to her class; the time has come.  I’m slightly nervous after I enter the room as the class is pretty crowded and Mallory is super fit.  Not only that but her students are super fit and it’s a nighttime class so people are feeling amped up after a day at work.  It’s a “heated power flow” so I already know it’s going to be powerful, what I don’t know is that I’m about to learn a nugget of information that only this little lady understands.   

Class begins and I’m not going to lie, Mallory intimidates me.  She’s intense, fit, and has a powerful practice.  I find myself wanting to impress her which I know isn’t possible with my lithe physique.  I also want to ask her how she stays that fit?  Everything is toned perfectly, does she workout 6 hours a day and then go back to bed?  I try to focus on class and this becomes easier as the sweat begins to pour.  A few minutes into class she has us use a prop like I’ve never used it before.  I’m not going to give away this major Mallory yoga secret but it’s a game changer!!!  At first I thought “she’s nuts how am I supposed to do this” but then I got it!!!  The entire class became more seamless and she kept pushing, just a wee bit.  She doesn’t push you so the postures look cool, she pushes you to your edge and somehow knows where that is.  She adjusted me which most instructors don’t do when you’re in their class for the first time and did it well; very well.   

As my yoga monkey mind began to wander and wonder where she got her training from I realized my physical practice had just made a giant leap.  I’ll admit I felt cool, not as cool I think Mallory is though.  She’s a tough chick with a soft side who knows what she’s doing.  She also doesn’t take herself too seriously, you’ll laugh a lot.  She has a reputation in Tampa as being one of the premier instructors and it’s well earned.  Run don’t walk to her class. 

Mallory’s “Heated Power Flow” is every Monday and Thursday 6-7:15 p.m.
